TRAINING TRANSITION PRIVATE COMMUNITY POOL SWIM PROGRAM

Training Transition recommends a year round approach to swimming. However, we understand that at most community pools are outside so the younger children may get too cold. Learning to swim correctly is considered a long term skill. Taking lessons once a week during the summer is beneficial but is not always enough to maximize all of the benefits swimming has to offer. Being exposed to the water (and not always in a lesson format) on a consistent basis introduces swimming not only as a recreation, but as part of a healthy lifestyle that can be enjoyed for life.

We teach all levels of swimming from 3 years to adults. If your child is younger than 3 years, we will work with the parents and the child to develop a program to help make the child comfortable in the water and learn some skills that will benefit the child once they start swim lessons. During Summer, we offer Mommy & Me classes for 6 months to 3 year olds.

Our program is designed to develop a 'safer' child in the water, while teaching them proper stroke technique. Our swim program consists of five developmental levels and a sixth pre-swim team level. As a child completes each level, they receive a color appropriate silicone band representing the completion of those skills.

Below is a brief overview of each of our levels.

Red
These swimmers are still warming up to the water. We recommend constant adult supervision in the water with the child in and around the water.

  • Pre-requisites: Must be under 4 years.
  • 2 students max per class
  • Red 1
We focus on enjoying the time in the water, basic safety skills, following directions, comfortable submersions, assisted floats and assisted glides.
  • Red 2
We work on independence: floats, glides, roll-overs and jumps.

Orange
At this level, we recommend constant adult supervision when in and around water.

  • Pre-requisites: These swimmers are 3+.
  • These swimmers are beginners who have little to no swimming experience but can glide 2 feet independently and are comfortable with submersion.
  • We work on independence and increased distance with floats, glides, jumps, roll-overs and basic freestyle arm strokes.

Yellow
These swimmers do not yet swim long distances independently and we recommend constant adult supervision in the water or around the water.

  • Pre-requisites: These swimmers are 3+ and have graduated from our Orange level. They can independently perform the following skills: back and front float, glide a minimum of 3 feet and jump and return to the wall.
  • Yellow 1
We work on increased independence with floats, glides, roll-overs and jumping in followed by a breath. We also focus on correct kicking, streamlines and freestlye arms.
  • Yellow 2
These swimmers focus on building strength, confidence, freestyle arms, streamline kick on their front and back, and kicking with unassisted breathing.

Green
These swimmers have more confidence in the water, however, they may be overconfident and still need "close and constant" supervision when in or around the water.

  • Pre-requisites: These swimmers must be able to independently perform the following skills: back float for 10 seconds, front float with a breath for 10 seconds, streamline kick for 6 feet, jump into pool plus a breath and kick for 3 feet. 3 freestyle arm strokes, roll to back and breathe (or look up), repeated 3 times.
  • Green 1
We focus on building strength to increase swimming distances and side breathing.
  • Green 2
We work on teaching freestyle and backstroke.

Blue
This child can swim basic freestyle. However, all children need to be supervised when in and around the water, we recommend constant adult supervision when in and around the water.

  • Pre-requisites: Must be able to swim 12 yards freestyle with side breathing and a basic backstroke.
  • We focus on increasing strength, endurance and technique for freestyle and backstroke, teaching breaststroke and butterfly.

Purple
Purple is our pre-swim team level. In this level, we prepare children for the intensity of swim team.

  • Pre-requisites: Must be able to swim 1 length of freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, butterfly and breastroke.

Swim Team
Swim Team: These children can swim basic freestyle, backstroke and understand the basic concepts of breastroke and butterfly.

  • Pre-requisites: Must be able to swim 25 yards (1 length) of freestyle with side breathing in under 35 seconds. Must be able to swim one length of backstroke, breastroke and butterfly with good form.

Swim Team includes a 10 minute warm up on the deck and 35 minutes swimming or for the more advanced, 45 minutes of swimming. We work on all stroke techniques, diving, turns and other safety skills at the same time as building the children’s endurance. We try to include time for a quick game at least once a week.
